$15 Million — For Who? Fannon Says Shakur’s Crazy Demand Is What Forced Zuffa to Let Him Go

Every negotiation has a number that ends the conversation. According to Fannon International Boxing Channel, Shakur Stevenson said his out loud: fifteen million dollars.

Fannon’s latest lays out his version plainly. He says he talked to someone in the know, and the demand Shakur put on the table was $15 million — a number Fannon treats as self-disqualifying, right there in his title: $15M, for who? His thesis doesn’t hedge. Shakur, in Fannon’s words, is making the biggest mistake of his life — trying to get everybody to overpay for the Devin Haney fight and holding the game hostage over money. And the hostage-taking failed the way it usually fails when the other side owns the building: Zuffa let him go. Not a counteroffer. Not a compromise. A release.

Put Fannon’s report next to the rest of this week’s verified record and a pattern hardens. Tank Davis, per Fannon’s own reporting yesterday in this same saga, told Shakur directly: you need me to get the big bag — because there is no bidding war, only tuneup money and one massive fight. Brian Norman Sr., a man who actually likes Shakur, told Mill City the fighter’s creed in one line: sometimes you gotta take less to make more. The whole sport is telling Shakur Stevenson the same thing from three different directions — the bag follows the fights, not the demands.

And that is the ducking record, stated in money instead of names. For years the criticism of Shakur hasn’t been talent; nobody serious questions the skill. It’s the arithmetic he brings to every big table — the weight moving, the clauses multiplying, and now, per Fannon, an eight-figure demand for a fight the market hadn’t agreed to buy. Promoters can survive a difficult fighter. They cannot survive a fighter whose price assumes the conclusion — that he’s already the draw his résumé keeps almost becoming.

Shakur is a free agent with a big number in his head and, so far, no one reaching for a pen. Fannon’s question is going to hang over every meeting he takes this winter, and it’s the right one: $15 million — for who?
