“You’re Sparring an Amateur”: Bill Haney Says Shakur’s Big Leak Was a Nobody — While Debo Spars a 17-0 Pro

Yesterday this site told you the sparring leak war proved nothing, because leaked tape is chosen tape. Today the war produced something rarer than footage: a checkable claim about what the footage actually is.

AKHi TV’s latest covers Bill Haney’s response to Shakur Stevenson’s leaked sparring — the clips Shakur put out claiming he got the better of Devin Haney and exposing a “boxing skill limit.” Bill’s counter is not another edit. It is an identification. “You’re sparring an amateur,” is the charge: the man in the footage Shakur has been celebrating, per the Haney camp’s exposure, was not Debo at all — it was an amateur. And the contrast Bill drew was deliberate: while Shakur leaks gym work against an amateur, Devin “Debo” Haney is doing his sparring against a professional who is 17-0.

Understand what that does to the argument if it holds up. The entire value of a sparring leak is identity — this is me, handling the man I am supposed to fight. Strip the identity away and the clip is just a talented champion looking good against somebody the public cannot name, which describes every open workout ever filmed. Shakur’s camp built a news cycle on that footage. Bill’s answer says the news cycle was built on a mislabel.

Now apply the same standard this site applied to both camps yesterday, because it cuts evenly. Bill’s claim is also a claim — made by an interested party, in a feud where both sides have treated the timeline as a scoreboard. The difference is that this one can be settled without opinion: the amateur either is or is not the man in the video, and the 17-0 pro in Debo’s camp either is or is not who the Haneys say he is. Names resolve this. Receipts resolve this. Another week of both camps posting past each other does not.

And underneath the tape fight sits the same fact it sat on yesterday. Haney and Shakur have now contested catchweights, rehydration clauses, purses, sparring footage and sparring partners — everything except a professional prizefight against each other. A champion who stands on business does not need the gym argument to survive fact-checking, because he never needed the gym argument at all. Sign the fight, and nobody cares who anybody sparred.
