BoMac Opens the Door: Crawford Is Ready, Sparring — and Canelo Has to Pay Up for the Rematch

Retirement talk is cheap. Gym work is not — and according to Terence Crawford’s camp, Bud is doing the gym work.

Fannon Boxing’s latest update centers on Crawford’s trainer, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, opening the door to the one fight Canelo Alvarez wants most: the rematch. BoMac’s warning to Canelo was simple — be careful what you ask for. Crawford, the Fannon breakdown says, is ready and sparring, whatever the retirement headlines suggested after he took Canelo’s undisputed super middleweight crown in September 2025. The door is open. It is just not free: the video’s message to Canelo, in Fannon’s words, is “prima donna, pay up.”

The leverage has completely flipped, and Fannon does not let Canelo forget why. Canelo has said publicly he has watched the Crawford loss five times, knows his mistakes, and does his best work in rematches — the Golovkin script. But this time he is the one asking. Fannon’s commentary ran through the receipts: a career of rematches and names that never quite happened on the other man’s terms — Trout, Lara, Andrade, Benavidez — and Mexican holiday dates traded for Saudi money. Now the man who controlled every negotiation needs the retired champion more than the champion needs him.

There is a wrinkle before any rematch can even be discussed. Canelo is supposed to challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title on October 31 in Riyadh — and Fannon cast real doubt on whether that fight survives Saudi political and payment brinkmanship, with both sides maneuvering over who cancels and who gets paid. Mbilli is no formality either: a volume pressure fighter is a very different problem from Crawford’s timing, and Canelo has to solve him first, at 36, coming off a loss.

And if the rematch does get made? Fannon’s read should worry Team Canelo: a second fight could favor Crawford more, not less. Bud has now lived at 168, felt the weight, and solved Canelo once with room to spare on two of the three cards. Fannon hopes it lands in Las Vegas rather than Riyadh. So should every fan — this one deserves a real fight atmosphere, and a real negotiation where the man holding the leverage finally has to be paid like it.
