Final Words Are Done: Dubois and Wardley Face Off One Last Time Before Tomorrow’s Rematch

The talking is finished. On Thursday in London, Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley sat at the final press conference, traded their last predictions, and faced off one final time before tomorrow night’s WBO heavyweight title rematch at The O2 — live on DAZN pay-per-view.

DAZN Boxing carried the whole event live, and the story of the afternoon was two fighters who have already shared eleven violent rounds pretending this is just business. It is not. On May 9 in Manchester, Wardley dropped the champion inside the first ten seconds and again in the third round, then watched Dubois take the fight over from the fourth and stop him in the eleventh. Wardley invoked his rematch clause within days. Everything since has pointed at tomorrow night.

Dubois, 28, came in sounding like a champion who believes the first fight answered the questions about his heart for good — down twice, up twice, winner by stoppage. Wardley, 31, came in as the underdog again and sounded comfortable there: the message from his side all week has been that he hurt Dubois early once and has spent five months drilling how to finish the job this time. His camp’s confidence is built on a simple fact — no other heavyweight in the world has put Dubois on the floor twice in three rounds.

The only real heat of the afternoon came from the managers’ row. Dubois’s manager Riz Khan questioned whether Wardley had fully healed from the first fight and said he was surprised the rematch clause was activated so fast. Wardley’s manager Michael Ofo fired back with complaints about Dubois leading with his head and rabbit punching in May, and promised pressure on the officials to police it this time. When the managers are arguing about the referee a day before the fight, both camps know how close this one is.

Promoter Frank Warren, meanwhile, was already looking past Saturday — talking up the heavyweight title picture and the unification fights waiting for the winner in 2027. That’s promoter talk, but it’s also true: the man who leaves The O2 with the WBO belt tomorrow night is one phone call from the biggest fights in the division.

We said it yesterday when Dubois claimed Wardley punches like a baby: talk is cheap on Thursday. The first fight was a Fight of the Year contender between two men who stand on business — a voluntary defense, an instant rematch clause, no tune-ups, no ducking. Tomorrow we find out if the comeback was the real story, or just the first chapter.
