Henry Garcia: Ryan Garcia Beats Teofimo Lopez — and Does What Shakur Did, but With Power

Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez is not talk anymore — at least not in the Garcia camp. Henry Garcia, Ryan’s father and trainer, told MillCity Boxing the fight is targeted for February 6, with the terms still to be negotiated but both sides pointed the same way: the two men want each other, and both want to unify. Ryan would defend his WBC belt and go after Lopez’s strap in the same night.

Henry is not hedging on how it ends. He expects Ryan to win and to go for the knockout doing it, the same way he went after Conor Benn. Asked if Lopez is the hardest task of Ryan’s career, Henry said no. Lopez is moving up, and in Henry’s reading he does not carry the power to handle a tall powerhouse like Ryan. If Lopez comes forward, Henry says, Ryan shows a different level — and while nobody has stopped Lopez before, the Garcia camp is coming to try.

Then Henry drew the line that tells you exactly where this camp’s head is at. Shakur Stevenson beat Lopez his way — Henry concedes Shakur “did what he had to do” — but the Garcia version, he says, comes with power, speed and a knockout punch. Ryan is not Shakur. He is not there just to jab. He is multi-dimensional, and the crowd would not want a repeat of the Stevenson style. Henry even put a number-free receipt on it: Ryan vs Lopez outsells Lopez vs Stevenson at the gate and on pay-per-view, “by far.”

That is the standard this site keeps coming back to. Fighters who stand on business and take the real fight earn the respect. Lopez is a champion who took the Shakur fight. Ryan, after all the noise around his name, is aiming at the other champion in the division instead of a soft touch — and there was even loose talk in the interview of a rumored Mayweather possibility, which Henry admitted he does not have the full details on, saying only that Ryan called it a possibility and Mayweather’s team reached out.

February 6 is a target, not a signed contract, and Henry said so himself. But the intent out of this camp is clear: unify, go for the stoppage, and do it in a style the fans actually want to watch. If the contracts match the talk, that is a fight week worth circling — the same division politics that just swallowed the Keyshawn Davis money story, where Coach Dorset called the $6 million version a lie.
