Schofield Sr: “Mason Called Us Out” — Top Rank Sent the Paperwork, the Terms Are San Antonio, and “We Going to Knock Mason Out”

Floyd Schofield Sr came to MillCity Boxing to correct the record, and he did it twice so there would be no confusion. The host, Mills, opened by saying the Schofields had received a contract from Top Rank. Sr stopped that cold: it was Top Rank that sent Golden Boy paperwork to get negotiations moving — Eric Gomez relayed it and asked if they should negotiate — and as for who started this, “Mason the one who called us out after we won. We didn’t call him out. He called us out. We responded to him.”

And the response, Sr insists, was his son’s call. He denies any about-turn: he was not going to do business there, but his son wanted the Mason fight, said “Let’s run it,” and wanted to make the announcement. “This is 100% my son thing.” The two have gone at it since they were kids and finished as the top two out of their class. Sr also flips Mason’s complaint that the Schofields have been calling him out for two years: Mason is the one talking about coming for “that jewelry,” and “they need us. He need us.”

The terms are already on the table: San Antonio, the figure Sr corrected on air when Mills floated a bigger number — “No, I gave y’all 2.5 for that fight” — and an automatic rematch for whoever loses, in the winner’s hometown. San Antonio matters because those fans filled their little home arena before the big stage and deserve their champion’s defense — “There’s no home-court advantage in getting punched in the face.” After going to Chicago to take the belt, his son offers “neutral ground or my home, San Antonio,” and Sr says Mason is not balking, both fighters have agreed, and it now sits with the promoters and the network. His target: “let’s get this fight on in February.” His prediction is not shy: “Yes, we feel we going to knock Mason out.” One caveat — Mason’s rumored December 11 fight with Joe Cordina comes first, and if Mason loses the belt, “we’ll probably be fighting Cordina.” Whoever wins, the Schofields want next.

Then Mills raised the other fire: MVP pushing for a Lucas Bahdi rematch, reportedly going to court to have rounds reviewed. Sr’s answer was two words: “They can’t.” His evidence is the footage the fans can see — a punch that went over the head and pulled down from the back of it, and a counted knockdown where Bahdi stepped on his son’s foot and no punch landed — plus the math: they won so far on the cards that flipping one knockdown still leaves them winners, with his lawyers and Golden Boy’s lawyers on it. That is the Schofield camp in full: called out, answered, terms stated, not giving the belt back in a courtroom or anywhere else.
