Floyd Schofield did the thing everybody else at lightweight keeps talking about: he fought for a world title and won it.
AKHi TV covered Tank Davis’s reaction to Kid Austin outpointing Lucas Bahdi for the WBA lightweight crown — and the reaction told the whole story. Asked to pick between Schofield and WBC champion Abdullah Mason, Tank picked Mason. The host didn’t mince words: that’s matchmaking. Pick the guy you want, dodge the guy you don’t.
Remember the history here. Schofield was Tank’s former WBA mandatory — and he accepted a 135-pound rehydration clause to make the fight happen. Tank still didn’t take it. Now the kid holds the belt Tank vacated, and suddenly Tank’s preference list has everybody’s name on it except the one that matters.
Meanwhile, the Schofield camp is doing what champions do. A phone call featured in the segment with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy team made it plain: they want the Mason unification next, and they’re open to any world champion. No cherry-picking. No social-media theater. Just belts.
That’s the difference Rnd5Media keeps pointing to. One side takes real fights. The other side picks opponents on preference polls. We already made the case that Tank vs. Schofield is the fight to make next — and nothing in Tank’s reaction changed our minds. If anything, it confirmed it.
Kid Austin stood on business. The ball is in Tank’s court. Again.
