Keyshawn Davis: Hitchins Never Signed — “He Ducked Me in the Beginning of the Year”

Notice what Keyshawn Davis did not do in this clip: talk money. Other videos put a price tag in the headline — in this one, Davis shut that door in the first minute, saying talking business is not his style of entertainment. What he came to do was put the whole Hitchins story on Richardson Hitchins’ doorstep.

His version, step by step. Back in August, before Hitchins started doing interviews, Davis DM’d him: the ink is dry — did you sign your contract? Hitchins answered that business would get handled soon. Then, Davis says, Hitchins never came back and said he signed — because he never signed. Instead Hitchins went on interviews saying Davis overpriced himself, and started calling out Brian Norman Jr. “So what is it?” Davis asked. “Was it going to be a great fight, or did I overprice myself?”

Davis — who calls Hitchins “Africa” throughout and uses his word “welling” to mean lying — says this is the second time. Hitchins ducked him at the beginning of the year, he says, and Davis ended up fighting Jamaine Ortiz precisely because Hitchins didn’t want Ortiz either. Now the same people call Davis the duck. His response to that is the clip’s mission statement: Hitchins is the only man he wants next. “I don’t want nobody else.” He told his viewers to tag Hitchins and tell him to stop playing — the same week Fannon was breaking down how Davis’ business moves stalled him out.

The resume receipts came out too. Hitchins went pro about four years before him, Davis noted, and Davis still became world champion first. It took Hitchins 10 years to become a champion. And Davis gave up his belt — he did not lose it. His first fight at 147 is by choice, not necessity, and he is gunning for Hitchins in it.

His pick, if there was ever a doubt: himself, by knockout — he said it about the pro fight and about the man who beat Hitchins at the Olympics. “When I fight, I’m whipping Africa ass. Believe that.” Fine. Rnd5’s position is the same for both of them: the talk is elite on both sides. Somebody sign, and let’s find out.
